You'll probably notice that the list of cocktails, wine, and beer at Sugarvale is much longer than the list of eats. That's intentional. As you'll be able to guess from its prominent bar, Sugarvale focuses on libations first and light bites second. Both the food and drink shine at this Mount Vernon speakeasy.
When you grab a seat at the bar or one of the high-top tables, start by ordering a cocktail to sip on. The Smoke & Fire showcases apple brandy from the local Baltimore Whiskey Co. mingling with lime, jalapeno-infused agave, and ginger beer. The So Fresh And So Clean teems with Mizu Lemongrass Shochu, dry vermouth, lemon, and cilantro. The seasonally inspired Opening Day features Dogfish Head Gin with Vida mezcal, lemon, and basil. They're all $3 off when you come during happy hour, from 5 to 7 p.m. daily and 10 p.m. to close Monday through Thursday.
