Pumpkins, leaves changing color, colder weather, you know what that means—it’s finally fall! Get into the spirit of the season and explore all of the fun fall activities that Maryland has to offer.
Catoctin Mountain Extended Loop Trail
Get your last outdoor workout in before the weather gets too cold! Catoctin Mountain in Hauvers is an 8.6 mile trail, with beautiful scenery including waterfalls along the way. The park is dog friendly and also has an orchard with a market and weekend apple picking for more fun!
Green Ridge State Forest
Green Ridge State Forest in Flintstone is a great hiking location! One of the biggest forests in Maryland, it has incredible views, as well as places to picnic and camp out overnight. It is a bit far from your home at The Zenith, but definitely worth the trek!
Patapsco Valley State Park
Take a trip to Maryland’s first state park at Patapsco Valley. Known for their swinging bridges, the park offers hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, and more.
Rocks State Park
Open from 9:00am until sunset, Rocks State Park in Jarrettsville features a 3.5 mile hiking trail, a creek for fishing and tubing, and three picnic areas. The park is also known for the King and Queen seat outcrop and Kilgore Falls.
Lake Roland is located right outside of the city, which is perfect for those looking for an adventure without traveling too far. The park is open from sunrise to sunset and offers a dog park, nature center, and a variety of events and activities.
A family tradition since 1904, Baugher’s in Westminster has long been a Maryland fall staple. Make a trip to visit the lovely orchard and bakery, and to try some of their homemade cider and honey. U-Pick apples at the orchard is Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am-5:00pm.
Weber’s Cider Mill Farm
Weber’s Cider Mill Farm in Parkville has plenty to offer this fall! Their barnyard opens on September 23rd, with the 44th Annual Johnny Appleseed Festival on the 21st and 22nd to kick off the season. Activities, besides apple picking, included in general admission include farm animals, hayrides, straw mazes, and more.
With apple picking, hayrides, a straw maze, and more, Larriland Farm in Woodbine offers plenty of fall fun! Larriland harvests a wide variety of apple types and other fruits and vegetables, so make sure to stop by for some fresh fall treats.
The Maryland Corn Maze in Gambrills was mentioned in “the 25 best corn mazes across the country to visit this fall” and is a great way to have fun with your friends! This year, the maze design was inspired by Harry Potter, and those who complete it are entered to win prizes each evening. It may be challenging, but it’s definitely rewarding.
With their incredible natural beauty, sunflower fields are the perfect place to take pictures and relax for a day. Clear Meadow Farm in Jarrettsville has been known for their sunflower field for years, and flowers are expected to be in full bloom until the end of October.
Cider is a fall classic that is a must-have each year! There are plenty of places serving up fresh, crisp cider this season.
Willow Oaks in Middletown is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00am-5:00pm and with so many different types of ciders, there is something that everyone will like.
Faulkner Branch is an hour and a half away in Federalsburg, but worth the trip. Open to the public on weekends from 12-4pm, this family owned business offers a unique cider and wine tasting experience, with riddles to solve in the tasting room that will lead you to their speakeasy.
Distillery Lane Ciderworks in Jefferson is open weekends from 12-5pm, and offers tastings and classes to learn more about the cider that you’re drinking.
If you’re looking for a winery nearby, check out Boordy Vineyards, which is only half an hour away from The Zenith. With picturesque scenery, guided wine tasting, and winery tours, Boordy is the perfect place to spend a beautiful fall day!
Annual Fall Events
Free Fall Baltimore
Free Fall Baltimore will be held from Saturday, September 28th- Saturday, October 5 at various locations throughout the city. If you’re looking for something fun on a budget, everything here is free! The events and activities include a night at the aquarium, art exhibits, musical performances, and more.
Maryland Renaissance Festival
The Maryland Renaissance Festival takes place from 10:00am-7:00pm on numerous dates throughout September and October, ending on October 20th. Rain or shine, for $27 there are many activities and performances to enjoy throughout the day.
