After a long year, it is finally January and time to enjoy the winter! While the cold weather and COVID may be forcing you to change up your routine, it could be the perfect time to try something new! There a plenty of fun winter activities to do in Baltimore that can be done virtually or in-person in a COVID-safe way.

 

Virtual Events

Virtual Harbor Point Ice Fest
Check out the Harbor Point Ice Fest on Saturday, January 23. The annual ice carving event may be virtual this year, but you still get to experience the wonders of ice sculpting and see incredible works of art. Voting can be done online too, where you can choose your favorite sculpture to win the competition!

 

Virtual Polar Bear Plunge
Even though you can’t plunge in-person this year, Maryland State Police and Special Olympics Maryland will be keeping up the tradition with the Virtual Polar Bear Plunge! You can participate any time up until January 31 by raising money and doing the plunge on your own time.

 

One Pot Series
Who says cooking requires a lot of materials? Learn how to make delicious dishes using only one pot through the One Pot Series hosted by Cooking with Pat and Nate! The next session of this virtual cooking class will be held on Sunday, January 24 from 5:30-8pm, where you can learn to make one-pot chicken and dumplings.

 

Yoga on the Square
Yoga on the Square is a virtual yoga experience that allows you to get a great workout in the comfort of your home! The free classes are held live through Facebook on Wednesdays from 7-8pm and are suited toward all experience levels.

 

Virtual Field Talk with the Maryland Zoo
If you love animals, then the Maryland Zoo’s Virtual Field Talk series is the perfect event for you! Each series highlights a different animal and conservation of the species. Make sure to check out their African Penguins field talk, which will be held Wednesday, January 27 from 12-1pm.

 

Qigong
Qigong is an energy yoga practice focusing on vitality and longevity and is also a great form of self-care. On Tuesdays from 7-8pm, you can take part in this mind-body-spirit experience, virtually! Classes are suited for both beginners and experts, and class routines change regularly, so you will consistently be trying something new.

 

Propagating Plants with Hilton Carter
If you have ever thought about owning plants, now is the perfect time to give it a try! Join plant enthusiast Hilton Carter for his virtual Propagating Plants course. The 90-minute class will be held on various dates over the next few weeks, and you will learn about different plants and how to properly care for them.

 

Charm City Trivia Tuesdays
Test your knowledge at Full Tilt Brewery’s Charm City Trivia Tuesdays, every Tuesday from 7:30-9:30pm. Gather your friends and make a team for a chance to win beer, gift certificates, merch, and more!

 

In-Person Events

Fell’s Point Farmers Market
The Fell’s Point Farmers Market is known for their producers only experience, meaning everything is fresh and locally grown! The market is open for in-person shopping every Saturday from 9:00am-12:30pm.

 

Ice Skating
The Four Seasons Hotel is open for ice skating with a view at their rooftop Winter Village! Tickets allow you to skate for an hour and include complimentary skate rental. In addition to the skating rink, the Winter Village also features food and drinks, as well as rental cabanas with fire pits.

 

Wisp Resort
Spend a weekend at Wisp Resort in McHenry, MD! Wisp offers all of your favorite winter activities including skiing, tubing and snowboarding, while also providing a luxury resort experience, equipped with a fitness center and indoor pool.

 

Western Maryland Scenic Railroad
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad non-profit is doing specialty train rides throughout winter! Some of the fun rides offered include the scenic Frostburg Train Ride, the Murder Mystery Ride, and the Maryland Mountain Moonshine Experience.

 

Schola Cooking Classes
Get a taste of Italy by taking a cooking class at Schola! Cooking classes are a great way to have a good time with friends while enjoying a delicious, homemade meal. Schola is just ten minutes away from Zenith and has plenty of fun upcoming classes, including pizza making, pasta making, and Sunday dinner.
